ANASTASIA CAZABON- “From the Secret World” 2008

I view my photographs as small secrets and hidden clues to a world of imagined characters. I aim to create images in which the viewer believes that they are catching a personal moment in the life of a character; a private second that the public would never usually see. I’m attracted to juxtaposing the beautiful with the grotesque and turning the mundane into the extraordinary.

My childhood has influenced my work greatly.  I spent the majority of it by myself, surrounding myself with books and creating imaginary friends. I envisioned a private world filled with dangerous secrets, amazing friendships and wild adventures. The world that I attempt to create photographically in my adult life is based on the imagined fantasies I lived as a child.
