Well, you’ll have to wait just a little while longer…

BUT, we’ll be posting the names and links of the 14 photographers selected by our 2009 guest juror Russell Hart on April 1st at this link (now live!) as well as on the blog shortly thereafter.  Congrats all.

Remember, we have another juried opportunity coming up in April juried by Dana Faconti, Editor of Blind Spot magazine.  This publication opportunity can feature two to maybe even three times as many people as the juried show.

Each juror brings a new perspective, so please keep trying!

I have been a juror for Critical Mass since it started. I think it is one of the best and most organized contests out there. I often see many PRC members and friends do quite well!!

Although at first it might sound like a lot, do the math. $75 for your work to be seen by 25 great pre-screening jurors is about $5 per excellent person. If you are selected for the top 175, $200 is only ONE DOLLAR per amazing national and international juror. You couldn’t even put together one fancy packet for that much, and of course postage alone would top that!

So much bang for your buck! (But of course, save some energy for the PRC’s annual juried exhibition; the form is online now for the spring show.)

Hurry, your 10 image Critical Mass entry is due on or before October 6th. Read below for more information, click here, and good luck!

From their Web site:

What Is Critical Mass?

The aim of Critical Mass, and all Photolucida programming, is to provide participants with career-building opportunities and to promote the best emerging and mid-career artists working today.

Critical Mass is a program about exposure and community. The idea is simple- photographers (from anywhere) submit a 10 image portfolio for $75. This work then gets pre-screened by a committee of 25 great jurors and from there, 175 top finalists are determined. These top finalists then pay an additional submission fee and their work goes on to a jury of approximately 200 of the world’s best curators, editors, and professionals who have agreed to vote on these finalists. From these votes, two or three photographers receive book awards and once the monographs are published, everyone who enters and reviews will receive copies of the books.

If you are one of the top 175 photographers chosen by the pre-screeners, then you will pay an additional $200 fee and your work will be sent out to the full panel of over 200 reviewers.

200 Reviewers!

Like last year, this is a truly international group of jurors representing a wide variety of photographic interests. The list of jurors is now available – we have made a great effort to represent the range of professional affiliation (gallery owners, curators, publishers, editors, etc.) and expressed artistic preferences (documentary, conceptual, social landscape, portraiture, etc.). Jurors will be sent a CD-ROM of the photographers’ work, as well as a hard-copy thumbnail image index of all the artists with contact information. This serves as a good reference tool for a multitude of purposes. Critical Mass jurors are not allowed to submit their own work to Critical Mass.
