For the past five years, the Photographic Resource Center and The Griffin Museum of Photography have organized and run the New England Portfolio Reviews (NEPR). The purpose of NEPR is to provide opportunities for photographers of all skill levels to meet with members of the photographic community. NEPR participants meet with gallerists, curators, educators, and other professionals who are able to provide feedback on the artists work.

This past Sunday the Photographic Resource Center hosted its 3rd Annual Portfolio Review Day. The event brought together 23 reviewers from museums, galleries, publications, and photo agencies. On the other side of the tables were artists from all over New England, and beyond, whose work ranged widely both in subject and approach. It was humbling to see such a bustling cross-section of our photo community under one roof and I am deeply grateful to our wonderful reviewers for being so generous with their time, energy, and insight.
I spent a great deal of time peeking over the shoulders of our reviewers and was really impressed with the breadth and quality of work I saw. All in all we served 40 artists during the reviews and that’s not including those folks who came exclusively for the portfolio sharing (a whole n’other ball of fun).
We’re in the process of uploading pics from the event to our flickr page so please check those out.

LKB here again, aka the girl whose brain is mush from being gone for most of March and then deinstalling and installing the next 2 weeks. I promise that I will write many inspired posts giving you the inside scoop as well as tips for these two important industry events in the coming month. However, until I regain my brain cells after looking at what I estimate to have been over 100 portfolios, my flickr pics will suffice. I just posted on the PRC’s flickr site dozens of fun photographs of Fotofest and SPE. Both were amazing and I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Houston and Denver, especially the latter. You can see the company with whom I reviewed in Fotofest’s Meeting Place session one here and see an overview of all of the SPE 2008 sessions and events here. Enjoy the PRC’s flickr pics here or by clicking the above montage!
(To entice you further, there are some great pics of new SPE board member and recent PRC lecturer Arno Minkkinen and some behind-scenes party pics.)
